Richard Booth at Hale Golf Club
Founded in 1903, the 9-hole gem that is Hale Golf Club is home to Head Professional Richard Booth. Not the toughest course in the world, but a beautiful part of Cheshire to play golf. Even though this course is tucked away, the club has a thriving membership with the men’s side full, and the ladies’ side almost there. The club prides itself on excellent practice facilities, friendly and welcoming staff and consistently good greens.
Experienced in his field, Richard has been the Head Golf Professional at Hale for 10 years, as well as becoming a PGA Advanced Professional. Whilst studying for his PGA qualification, Richard won trainee of the year! Even though Hale is his home, his favourite golf course has to be the famous Royal Birkdale. Richard has played alongside Justin Rose and Geoff Ogilvie as an amateur, but they still didn’t make his dream fourball. In fact, the players he would choose for his dream fourball have to be Fred Shoemaker, Brooks Koepka and his dad.
“Golf is a great game. It’s always challenging, and this golf course is beautifully picturesque. I coach a lot of new golfers and work on getting them on to the golf course as soon as possible”. Richard thrives on meeting new people from all walks of life and particularly enjoys the outdoors. However, as much as Richard loves being on the green, he is a keen snowboarder and generally loves to exercise, as well as keeping extra fit looking after his twin girls and Buddy the dog!
“I love playing golf, so I do like to fuel up with extra food! I don’t live far from the golf club, so I enjoy going to the indoor food market there which has won awards nationally!” As well as tasting new delicatessen, Richard tends to head into Manchester to socialise or nips to Ashley for a dog walk. You can certainly tell Richard loves the outdoors.
Signature Hole
The 12th hole has to be Hale’s signature- a dogleg par 4 which is played from an elevated tee.
“It’s an intimidating tee shot between the trees on either side. Its dog legs sharply left. The green is well guarded with high lipped bunkers at the front. The green itself is fast and slopey and is like an upturned saucer, so any approach shot into it not hit correctly can easily bounce off. It’s very important to hit the fairway from the tee shot. It doesn’t need to be super long. This gives you more control with the ball-playing into the tricky green.”
