Mike Platt at Carden Park Golf Club
As well as two championship golf courses, there are a wealth of facilities at the famous Carden Park Country Estate to create your perfect golf experience. The course compromises of the Nicklaus Course and The Cheshire course.
The Nicklaus course was famously designed by the great Jack Nicklaus and son Steve and this beautiful course is a must for all golfing enthusiasts. The first hole is located next to the onsite vineyard and offers beautiful views of the Welsh hills. The game eventually leads you around the front of the Cheshire country estate. Beware: there are many strategic moves required to avoid the hazards along the way during your golf game. The double option holes of the 7th and the 15th offer a choice of fairways from which to approach the green. A longest drive competition is recommended from the 4th hole with the nearest the pin best taken on the 16th hole. Your game is almost complete when you play in front of the full hotel on the 17th.
Leading to a dramatic finish, the Cheshire golf course offers many challenges along the way with natural hazards to test your golfing skills. Situated at the back of the estate, the golf course has beautiful views across the estate and the Welsh hills beyond. The bunkers have been designed to flow with the natural contours of the landscape; you will need a sharp swing to keep out of them all! If you have a competitive streak, we recommend you take a longest drive from the 9th hole and nearest the pin at the 15th hole. As you get towards the end of your game, the 16th and 17th lead you to the 18th hole set upon a cliff overlooking the full estate.
There are several PGA Professionals at Carden Park, all of whom coach with a difference. We caught up with Mike Platt who is a PGA Teaching Professional at Carden. Mike has just returned from honeymoon and showed ONPAR’s PGA Professional Sam Mellor around the newly refurbished grounds. The park has spent £100,000 on upgrading the driving range and new bays, with a state-of-the-art Trackman launch monitor. There is also a new custom fit suite where they are now fitting with Ping and Taylormade and have seen a huge increase in clients coming in for fittings and lessons. Both of the courses have a halfway house on the 9th hole which offers snacks and drinks and golf buggies are also available for hire.
If a little relaxation after your game is required, The Spa at Carden is a destination for well-being. The newly refurbished Spa will open Monday 6th January 2020 and will offer a variety of treatments, as well as mini stays and spa days. The country estate has recently welcomed an onsite hairdresser, Blooming Beautiful (wedding and gifting) and has a thriving gym and pool area, enabling you to work out or wind down. You can relax in the sauna or steam room, take a seat in the hydrotherapy pool or take a dip in the 20-metre swimming pool.
