About Jonathan Salisbury
Jonathan Salisbury has been head professional at Knott End Golf Club for 1 year. He loves representing Knott End and being in front of the house interacting with club members and visitors.
Jonathan has been teaching for 10 years and has his very own philosophy; “There is more than one way to swing a golf club”. Aside from golf, Jonathan is also a keen runner and attends regular races.
It’s official! Jonathan Salisbury has recently celebrated his first year as Head Professional at Knott End Golf Club. The hidden gem of the Fylde Coast has certainly captivated this experienced professional who counts himself privileged to represent the club and call it his job.
Modestly, Jonathan tells us how much he loves his role, being the front of the house and interacting with all the members and visitors daily. His helpful, friendly and professional manner have helped him quickly endear himself to everyone he speaks to.
Jonathan’s teaching philosophy is that no two golf swings are the same, so every client that he teaches is unique, and by working on the positive attributes of that person, he can gradually introduce new key moves that will help those golfers fulfil their potential.
With Jonathan firmly in position, there are some exciting times are ahead for this course on the Wyre Estuary. Recently they have become part of the Play More Golf Scheme, where golfers can be a member for £325 for 12 months! There are also plans in the making for a state-of-the-art indoor teaching studio attached to the clubhouse accessible to members and the local community.
Golf isn’t the only love in Jonathan’s life though! As a keen runner, this Pro has competed in numerous 10km events, after only putting his trainers on initially to stay fit. Encouraged to try something a bit more challenging, Jonathan nervously entered himself in the Great Herdwick event, in the Lakes. Competing against over 300 seasoned and experienced runners, Jonathan came a magnificent 8th place, a true natural. The thrill for him is being out on the road; saying it really does calm the soul and clear the mind.
Would you say that after a round of golf? Knott End was designed originally by James Braid, who strategically placed plenty of bunkers around the front of the greens, positioned Par 3’s facing North, East, South and West and created them with enough of a challenge even with modern-day equipment. Imagine playing here on a windy day with a hickory shaft and a feathery golf ball!
It’s a course of two halves. The first nine holes go along the side of the Estuary with fabulous views of the River Wyre. When the tide is in and the boats are sailing, teeing off on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th is breath-taking. It is hard to believe you are only a few miles from Blackpool.
The back nine goes down into a valley with tree-lined fairways and our signature hole (watch out, it can ruin your card.) The best thing about the course is its playability for both low and high handicap players.
The second hole at Knott End is a 230-yard Par 3 that is predominantly into the prevailing wind hitting towards Fleetwood, and the green is tiny. Behind it is also out of bounds straight into the River Wyre, so on a blustery day, it is one of the hardest par 3’s in the North West, a great golf Hole!
Accustomed to hosting some high-profile competitions, Knott End will once again host the North West Junior Open organised by the Lancashire Union of Golf Clubs on 25th August, kindly sponsored by member Eddie Carswell and Nu-form Fire UK. Hopefully, the weather will be kinder than last year, as a high calibre of junior golf will turn out and compete for the title.
