As Rory McIlroy kicks off The Farmers at Torrey Pines, we get an inside look at what’s in his bag this week. Dan Webster from St.Annes Old Links Golf Club talks us through Rory’s bag as he hits a few balls around some famous, links holes.

Rory has 19 clubs in his bag whilst he’s practising, and more than likely what he will do, is put a huge bag of clubs together, then select which ones he will use for the tournament.
So, What’s in the bag?!
First of all, we notice the new TaylorMade SIM Driver – Replacing the M5 and M6 drivers, the SIM has an asymmetric sole design and powerful new Inertia Generator.
We also notice the new Callaway Mavrik Driver! You can see our review on these *here* So what’s the difference? The Mavrik has all the technology with that jailbreak face. Is this the most powerful three wood EVER?! Watch Dan’s Video to watch him trying it with the new Callaway Chrome Soft Balls.
We can see Rory is playing with TaylorMade p730 Irons, we know Tiger has his own version which we reviewed in the first Fylde Coast Edition! Ok, let’s take a look..
Spider X Putter
The Spider X series has an optically engineered sightline featuring Truth Path alignment system. The system is designed for a clearer vision, improved path and enhanced visual perception. The head is three times deeper than a traditional blade putter and features a new weight design. The X has a composite core weighing 15 grams, and additionally, the entire putter features 2 grams of aluminium, 6 grams of steel and 12 grams of tungsten which allows for different weight preference.
Rory Spider X putter has a thicker, 5mm, 12-groove Pure Roll surlyn insert, which improves sound feel and the overall roll. This creates a smoother roll with much greater accuracy. This is also used by PGA Tour players such as Dustin Johnson and Jason Day.

P790 UDI 2 Iron
Following on from the original P790 irons, TaylorMade have created the UDI 2 iron which “Combines Forged Construction with SpeedFoam™ Technology for Extraordinary Distance and Accuracy”.
The UDI has a re-engineered Inverted Cone Technology which fits the slightly smaller face. The iron has a mixture of titanium and tungsten for a higher and more accurate ball speed and forgiveness. The speedfoam is injected into the UDI iron head as a liquid and then expands to a solid material just after 45 minutes. This will mean that there won’t be any weight added to the centre of the iron head.
The tungsten slug has been increased in size by removing weight from the face and instead, increased in the head, which in return meant a higher launch.

Milled Grind 2 wedge (52, 56 and 60)
With a combination of precision-milling with Raw Face Technology, the new wedges are expected to have increased spin, precision and an all-over better feel. The face grooves are deeper, sharper and narrower and the new thick-thin head design means the mass has been able to be redistributed, allowing for a precise flight.
We understand that the milling process maximises consistency, which is why every wedge has a precisely grafted grind. The wedge also offers a TPU insert which reduces vibration dampening and improves the feel at impact.

4 Iron Blade P730
TaylorMade have described the irons as the most finely crafted irons they have to offer. The irons have a smaller blade profile, refined leading edge and crisp lines. The face and grooves have also been developed, to have a softer feel, clean turn interaction and impeccable shot-shaping ability.
“The P730 was designed to build off of our heritage of major championship winning blade irons, especially with TPMB ’11 and TPMB ’14. The overall goal was to retain the features that were iconic to the TPMB while at the time improving its performance in two subtle ways: shaping and mass properties.”
