Stanedge Golf Club was founded in 1931, with six founder members. Initially, there were only three holes, the present 1st, 2nd and the 9th, complete with plant pots and cocoa tins for cups for the greens, which were cut from the fairway and formed the base of the natural moorland greens which are now in existence. The official ‘birth date’ of Stanedge Golf Club was 1934, when it was registered with the Royal and Ancient Golf Club on land originally owned by Mr Edwin C Barnes.
In 1995, the club managed to buy the course, together with some additional land to allow for course developments. Both the existing 5th and 6th holes were lengthened to par four and par five respectively and a brand-new hole was built to become the 13th, which avoided playing the short 4th hole twice. Consequently, the par for the course was increased from 64 to its current 69.
The bar and catering staff will look after all your food and beverage requirements, either before, after or even during your round of golf at Stanedge, whether it’s a hot bacon or sausage sandwich with a warming cup of tea or coffee on the green for breakfast, a mid-morning snack during your game, a lovely lunch, afternoon tea with scrumptious scones oozing with cream and jam, a cheeky tipple before dinner, or a full, hearty evening meal (with dessert, naturally) to round off a good day of golfing. The clubhouse facilities of course include well-equipped and pristine men’s and ladies’ locker rooms for safe and convenient storage of your personal items, along with shower and changing facilities. And you’ll love relaxing in the pleasant social area with a choice of comfortable chairs, tables for dining or a seat at the bar for a good chat.
THEIR COACHING PHILOSOPHY
“Here at Stanedge Golf Club, we believe in a player centred approach to coaching, creating a fun and safe learning environment, enhancing player ownership, self-belief and improving self-awareness of movement. Whether you are male, female, young or old, a complete novice or an experienced player, you will find our golf sessions uncomplicated and rewarding. Every golfer is unique…their swing, body type, tendencies and learning style so we don’t believe that there is only one way to swing a golf club. We strongly feel that the method used should be based on the individual needs of the player to fulfil their requirements and golfing aspirations.”
