Scarthingwell Golf Course is a beautiful setting for a leisurely round of golf. With its strategically placed bunkers, intriguing elevations changes and sharp doglegs you need to be playing well to register a good score.
The Course is owned and managed by members of the Pick family who developed the site from jointly-owned land in the early 1990s and still live nearby, having farmed in the area since 1925. Each of the partners plays an active role in the day-to-day operation of the Golf Course and at least one partner is usually on-site at most times of the day.
The Head Greenkeeper at Scarthingwell is John Waite, who has held the position since 1995. Together with his three assistants, John works closely with the owners in maintaining the excellent standard of the course.
An easy walking 18-hole course, Scarthingwell is set in tranquil rural surroundings and has become well established since its opening in 1990, providing a fair test for golfers of all abilities, as well as gaining a reputation for its friendly and informal atmosphere.
Within easy driving distance of both Leeds and York, we are situated just outside of the village of Towton on the A162 which runs between Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet. Within 10 minutes drive of the A1M and M1 motorways.

Scarthingwell Golf Club Restaurant
Set amidst the rolling countryside and historic battlefields of the Vale of York at Tadcaster, Dintingdale Restaurant offers seasonal menus featuring a full range of modern British cuisine, presented in a beautiful setting. Open 5 days a week, Wednesday to Sunday, the Dintingdale Restaurant is the perfect venue for intimate meals for two, as well as weddings, parties and family celebrations.
Located on the first floor of the Clubhouse at Scarthingwell Golf Course, between York and Leeds, Dintingdale Restaurant takes its name from the nearby site of a skirmish between Yorkist and Lancastrian forces on the day before the infamous and bloody Battle of Towton on Palm Sunday 1461.
The area is now a haven of rural tranquillity, providing the perfect backdrop to our tempting menus. As befits a restaurant run by a family with almost 100 years of farming heritage, we are deeply committed to high-quality food, using only the freshest ingredients sourced from local producers wherever possible.
