Haltwhistle Golf Club enjoys magnificent views of the South Tyne Valley and is probably, the most scenic and historically interesting course in Britain.
It is the only golf club on both Hadrian’s Wall footpath and the Pennine Way. The course offers excellent views; East to Haltwhistle and beyond; North to Spadeadam and West to Gilsland and Brampton.
The area is steeped in history, with Thirlwall Castle on the doorstep, the remains of Hadrian’s Wall crossing the golf course and where tales of the Romans and Border Reivers abound. Spadeadam was noted for the development of the Blue Streak missile.
The small town of Haltwhistle is close by with its many amenities and boasts the title of the “Centre of Britain”.
With trees, ditches and excellent greens you will find this course a truly testing and enjoyable golfing experience.

The well maintained greens cross land steeped in the history of the Roman occupation and the infamous ‘Border Reivers’.
Indications of the Roman remains may still be defined by various earth mounds on the course. Should your drive from the 17th tee veer astray off the fairway, you may find your ball laying in the rough, covering allegedlyRoman graves.
Completing the course on the 18th, look to your right across the valley to view Thirlwall Castle; a remnant of the notorious times of the Border Reivers, when pillage, arson, cattle-rustling, kidnapping and rape, was a way of life for the people of the borders. Even the Kings of England and Scotland could not subdue these lawless people.
The rules of golf have now been established on this once lawless land. The course will test your skills over this 18 hole, 5532 yard, 69 par golf course.
It has two testing five par holes and five tricky par threes. The most heinous crime that can be committed on this peaceful land is by not replacing divots, which all law-abiding players perform without the threat that once governed this region, namely the Crown Marsh Wardens intervention and transportation to imprisonment in Carlisle Castle.
