How many calories do you burn playing golf? – It’s a common question, and Neil Wolkodoff, the Director of the Centre for Health and Sport Science at the Rose Medical Centre in Denver set up a study to find out the answer.
The results he found were:
- Walking with a bag: 721 calories burned for nine holes (approx. 1442 for 18 holes)
- Walking with a pushcart: 718 for 9 (approx. 1436 for 18)
- Walking with a caddie: 621 calories for nine holes (approx.. 1242 for 18)
- Driving a buggy: 411 calories (approx.. 822 for 18)
These results show golf really is using a good amount of energy, and burning plenty of calories. This doesn’t give you a free pass to eat as many calories as you like! But you should certainly eat healthy snacks on the course to fuel your body to play well.
The Max Golf Protein Natural Peanut & Banana & Cashew Energy Bars each have approx. 250 calories per bar, so they replenish the calories you’re burning and provide lots of energy for your round, while the Max Golf Protein Delicious Vanilla Drink contains just 165 calories and the Chocolate Drinks has just 102 kcal, and so they are the ideal for those golfers looking to limit their calorific intake on the course.
Remember there are lots of empty calories in certain drinks, especially in full sugar soft drinks and in alcoholic drinks. Empty calories are those that don’t fill you up, so choose your calories wisely in healthy snacks and use them to maximise your energy on the golf course.
