Alastair Taylor PGA puts the brand new TaylorMade SIM Drivers to the test. As TaylorMade takes a step away from the M Series, Ali takes a closer look at the new SIM (Shape in Motion) Driver, including the SIM Max. Taking us through a few shots himself, Ali tests whether this tech-filled driver delivers on the Taylormade promises using his Trackman technology.
Does the SIM Driver successfully combine the brand new innovative aerodynamic sole (Inertia generator) to reduce drag, produce faster clubhead speed, generate faster ball speed and give you more distance? Does the weight at the back of the club create a higher MOI and giving you more forgiveness?

TaylorMade SIM Driver
Liking the silver carbon crown as we look down on the driver, this is an improvement on the more matte finish of the M Series. The SIM is slightly smaller than the SIM Max. It feels good as it swings and after several shots, the driver performs very well but the performance isn’t drastically different and doesn’t pick up the overall speed performance as much as Ali would have expected.
TaylorMade SIM MAX Driver
All the similar technology to the SIM, the Twist Face, the carbon crown, ultra-low CG. There isn’t a sliding weight so perhaps not the same level of forgiveness as the SIM, but what it does have to improve forgiveness is the larger face. Looking very different from the SIM, it is still very pleasing to the eye and feeling very similar, the SIM Max generates good consistent numbers, very optimal, but again not a massive change for Ali personally. All in all, these are very good drivers and worth a try.
If you are set up properly, the SIM and SIM Max would be worth a look if you are wanting to upgrade your current driver. Preferring the SIM Max, out of the two, Ali recommends that it is worth getting properly fitted if you are looking to put something new in your bag.
RRP £479.00 (SIM and SIM Max D £449)
